May is National Foster Care Awareness Month. During the month of May, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Community and Faith-Based Initiative on Foster Care and Adoption dedicates an event to recognize and support the 13,000 children who are placed in foster care. This year’s Community and Faith Leader Summit will be held on May 18, 2018 at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa in Traverse City, MI. The purpose of the Summit is two-fold: 1) to build a greater awareness of the needs of children in foster care and their families, and 2) to provide an opportunity for local leaders to become involved in foster care and adoption awareness and support efforts. We encourage religious leaders, members of congregations, medical professionals, educators, business leaders and representatives, and other community leaders to attend.
Please join us and share with other community and faith organizations you believe would be interested in learning how to become involved in foster care and adoption awareness and support efforts. If you would prefer that Trina Richardson or Monica Jackson, coordinators of the Community and Faith-Based Initiative on Foster Care and Adoption, to reach out to any community and faith leaders on your behalf, please feel free to share with us a list of the those individuals, the names of their churches or businesses, and any known contact information, including mailing addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses.
There is no cost to attend and lunch will be provided. Childcare will not be available at the Summit.
